Cynthia Erivo to Host the 2025 Tony Awards

Written by on February 23, 2025

Cynthia Erivo, fresh off the success of Wicked, will take the stage as the host of the 78th Tony Awards, Broadway’s biggest night. She follows Ariana DeBose, who hosted the past three ceremonies.

A Tony Award winner herself, Erivo won Best Actress in a Musical in 2016 for her powerful performance in The Color Purple. She is currently an Oscar nominee for her role as Elphaba in Wicked and previously earned Academy Award nods for Harriet, including for co-writing its song “Stand Up”. With an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony already to her name, she is close to achieving EGOT status.

“I am so proud and excited to take on this glorious honor,” Erivo said. “I hope I can rise to the occasion.”

The 2025 Tony Awards will return to Radio City Music Hall in New York City on June 8, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+. This marks the ceremony’s return to the venue after being held at United Palace in 2023 and Lincoln Center in 2024.

With a blockbuster film career, Erivo brings major star power to this year’s Tonys. She will reprise her role as Elphaba in Wicked: For Good and recently wrapped a guest role in Poker Face. Her other notable projects include playing Aretha Franklin in Genius: Aretha and starring in HBO’s The Outsider.
