COVID Cases in Children Surge in Monroe County

According to Monroe County health officials, the County’s rising daily new COVID-19 case total can be attributed in part to increased testing, which is driven by the start of the school year. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello reported 213 new cases and a seven-day average of 193, with last week’s numbers being 169 and 142. According to the county’s Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza, the test positivity rate is declining, but the proportion of new cases among those ages 5 to 18 increased 6% over the past two weeks.
