Chris Perry, 32, died suddenly in May 2025, five months before his planned wedding at The Cotton Room in Durham.
He and fiancée Kristen Seidel had already paid more than $18,000, but the venue refused to refund any money, citing its non-refundable policy.
The family says the venue hasn’t earned the payment and hoped for compassion.
The Cotton Room says funds cover planning and staffing, not just the event day.
The dispute has sparked backlash online, with many calling for at least a partial refund.
