Code Blue: Monroe County Offering Free Transportation To Warming Centers
Written by Tariq on December 10, 2025
With frigid temperatures in the 10-day forecast, Monroe County leaders are reminding people about free transportation to warming centers. The county issues “Code Blue” any time temperatures dip below 32 degrees or winter weather conditions pose a serious risk. During that time, RTS bus services offer free transportation to shelters, including the Open Door Mission (routes 15 and 21), House of Mercy (route 3), and Saving Grace Ministries for men (routes 4 and 5). RTS OnDemand also offers transportation to Oak Orchard/First Baptist Church in Brockport. The goal is to support the county’s homeless people and expand options for them to stay warm. People in need can use any RTS bus stop. If the nearest shelter is already on the route, the bus will take you directly there. If the warming center isn’t on the route, the bus will take you to the RTS Transit Center, where an RTS employee will help you to get on the correct bus route.
