A high school football coach in Eugene, Oregon, was fired after his team defeated Cottage Grove 63-0 in a game that ended at halftime. Marist Catholic High School dismissed head coach Zach Loboy on October 9, saying his decisions during the blowout victory did not align with the school’s values.
The Spartans attempted two onside kicks despite facing a Cottage Grove team with just 16 players. Marist also returned an interception for a touchdown late in the first half. School officials and the local football officials commissioner agreed not to play the second half, citing the best interests of the players and everyone involved.
Loboy previously led Marist Catholic to an undefeated season and a state championship in 2024. Jake Lowther has been named interim head coach.
