Chaos Outbreaks Over Former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Book Money

Earlier this month, it was reported that the New York Public Ethics voted to claw back the money on former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s book deal commission of $5.1 million and ordered Cuomo to turn the cash over to the Attorney General’s office within thirty days. However, now the Attorney General’s office says it seems as though the commission doesn’t have the authority to make that decision. It would be up to Attorney General Letitia James, and James may not have the authority to determine what should be done with the money.
Andrew Cuomo’s attorney Jim McGuire stated: “JCOPE’s actions violated fundamental constitutional rights and flagrantly exceeded its statutory authority. It is not at all surprising that the lawlessness of JCOPE’s latest unlawful action is being recognized as just that. We remain ready to vindicate the Governor before a politically neutral body, our courts.”
