Last night, the weather channel announced that hurricane Laura had strengthened to an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm as it gets closer to the Texas and Louisiana coastlines.
The National Hurricane Center announced that “Little time remains to protect life and property.”
Hurricane Laura is expected to lose steam once it hits land, but it’s still considered to be the most powerful hurricane to hit the U.S. this year. Evacuation orders have been given to over 500,000 individuals and the storm is projected to impact the lives of over 20 million people.
The Hurricane Center also predicted life-threatening storm surges, extreme winds and flash flooding along the northwest gulf coast for Wednesday night. The storm is moving at about 15 miles per hour and is expected to reach the coast early Thursday morning.
