The Cannes Film Festival has big plans to return from the pandemic shutdown. They plan to include a record number of women directors as well as a live event including an in-person premiere on the Croisette.

Several very important women in the film industry are included in this event such as Enyedi, who was the big winner of Berlin’s Golden Bear and Ducournau which are competing with her hit film “Titane.”

This event is extremely important because not only is it very inclusive of women directors, but it is extremely internationally inclusive and includes several films that show the hardships of the pandemic. For example, masks are worn and quarantine is shown.

Variety reported:

“During an extensive presentation of the official selection, Fremaux said the lineup was ‘very international’ and includes several films that will reflect the times, for instance ‘lockdown films’ in which ‘characters are wearing masks’; films or documentaries about whistleblowers; and many ‘films questioning who we are and what this world is becoming.'”
