Bills safety Damar Hamlin was administered CPR and taken from the field in an ambulance after collapsing during the first quarter of the team’s game Monday night. During the first quarter of the Bills’ primetime matchup against the Bengals, safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field after tackling Cincinnati WR Tee Higgins. Hamlin got up to his feet, then fell straight backward onto the field. An ambulance rushed onto the field, as players and medical professionals from both teams gathered around the second-year safety.

Hamlin was surrounded by stunned players from both teams, and when he was taken off the field 16 minutes later, the Bills gathered in prayer. While medical personnel were gathered around Hamlin, his uniform was cut off and he appeared to be getting CPR. ESPN reported on its telecast that Hamlin was also given oxygen. He was strapped to a backboard and moved into the ambulance.

The game was suspended 21 minutes after the injury, and players walked off the field slowly. Around 10 p.m., 65 minutes after the injury, the NFL announced the game would not continue Monday night. It’s unclear if or when the rest of the game will be played. Hamlin was listed in critical condition at a nearby hospital, according to a statement from the NFL.
