The Brighton community came together Sunday night to honor the life of 11-year-old Anne Mancuso, a sixth-grader tragically killed in an apparent murder-suicide. Police reported that Anne’s father, Lawrence Mancuso, fatally shot her and her grandmother, Mary Liccini, before turning the gun on himself Friday afternoon. The incident shocked the small town, leaving neighbors devastated and searching for ways to support one another.
In response, residents organized a heartfelt tribute, placing flowers at the scene and lining streets with luminaries. The community plans to light these luminaries each night for 11 consecutive days in memory of Anne. Susan Pearlberg, a neighbor, described the tragedy as “soul crushing” and emphasized the importance of unity during such difficult times.
The Brighton Central School District has made counseling services available to students and staff to help them process the loss. Residents expressed their love and support for the grieving family, with Pearlberg adding, “The whole community just wants to wrap their arms around this family.”
The vigil and ongoing tributes reflect Brighton’s commitment to honoring Anne’s memory and helping the community heal from this unimaginable loss.
