Body Discovered in Erie Canal Near Pittsford

Authorities are investigating after a body was found in the Erie Canal near Great Embankment Park in Pittsford on September 17. A concerned citizen called Monroe County deputies around 2:30 p.m. to report the sighting. Emergency responders, including the county’s Underwater Search and Recovery Team and the Bushnell Basin Fire Department, arrived on the scene and confirmed the individual was deceased. The canal path between Great Embankment Park and Marsh Road has been closed in both directions as the investigation continues.
