Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin successfully launched an all-female celebrity crew into space on April 14, 2025, led by Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Joining Sanchez were singer Katy Perry, CBS anchor Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, and scientist-activist Amanda Nguyen. The 10-minute flight aboard the New Shepard rocket from West Texas reached 66 miles above Earth, offering brief weightlessness and stunning views. The mission marked the first U.S. spaceflight crewed entirely by women and was intended to inspire future generations. Katy Perry sang “What a Wonderful World” in space, while Oprah Winfrey and other VIPs cheered from the ground. Blue Origin, which has now flown 11 human missions, continues to champion commercial space travel, joining the likes of SpaceX in making space more accessible to non-professionals. The flight came just ahead of Sanchez and Bezos’ upcoming wedding and represents a cultural milestone in gender representation in space.
