BLACK-ISH: JUNETEENTH (IN SONG)
Written by Atu on June 19, 2020
One of my favorite shows, Black-ish, in an episode entitled “Juneteenth”, discussed the emancipation of Black slaves in the 19th century and the perspective of how things went.
The episode was re-aired the first week in June of 2020 after it’s original air date four year’s ago. Current events provided a perfect time for that decision.
The song created in the show, performed by The Roots, reminded me of when I was a child watching a “One To Grow On” short between commercials on Saturday mornings or “The After School Special” during the weekday afternoons. With elements like these, we learned important communication skills, historical facts, trivia and other relatable subjects. Plus, they were fun to watch. This song is great reminder of creative learning and I learned something!
