Written by Andre on February 24, 2020
New York State lawmakers have proposed a new bill that would make it mandatory for sex education in all public and charter schools. The new bill would mandate an age appropriate curriculum for first through twelfth grade across the state.
The bill would discuss age appropriate topics like birth control, consent, and gender. It would also touch on healthy relationships and HPV.
The goal of the proposed legislation is to provide children in grades 1-12 with accurate information. The bill says the State has a responsibility to bring this instruction into the classrooms to keep youth safe.
Velmanette Montgomery (D) 25th District is the bills sponsor. It is currently in the Committee.
