Aquinas Football Coach Maurice Jackson Agreed to Part Ways with Termination After Two Seasons Following Sectional Championship

Written by on March 4, 2025

Maurice Jackson has been fired as head coach of the Aquinas varsity football team after two seasons, as confirmed by a letter sent to parents.

The letter did not provide specific reasons for his dismissal. In a Facebook video, Jackson explained he was given the choice to resign, be terminated, or part ways mutually, opting for termination to avoid a narrative that he didn’t want to coach.

He mentioned unresolved racial issues and a dispute with another coach as contributing factors.

This decision comes shortly after Aquinas secured their first sectional title since 2018.

Jackson was notable for being the first African American coach in the program’s history and has a strong football background, including playing for Syracuse and a stint in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.

Aquinas Athletic Director Anthony Bianchi will temporarily take over as head coach while the school searches for a new leader for the football program. Jackson plans to provide more details about his situation in the future.
