Anthony Mackie Reveals He Wanted to Play Black Panther

Anthony Mackie, known for playing Sam Wilson, recently revealed his initial desire to play King T’Challa in Black Panther. He shared with Inverse that he approached Marvel about the role years before he debuted as Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Mackie eventually got a role in a Marvel film when directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo offered him an undisclosed part. Mackie agreed to join the movie due to his trust in the directors.
Since then, Mackie’s character has featured in six Marvel films and a 2021 Disney+ miniseries, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The actor is set to star in Captain America: Brave New World, due for release on July 26, 2024.
