American pastor Josh Sullivan, 45, was abducted at gunpoint during a sermon at Fellowship Baptist Church in Motherwell Township, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Four masked men stormed the church Thursday night, robbed congregants of cellphones, and kidnapped Sullivan using his own vehicle, which was later found abandoned nearby. Sullivan, originally from Tennessee, moved to South Africa with his family in 2018 to lead a church-planting mission. Authorities have launched an abduction and armed robbery investigation, now led by the Anti-Gang Unit. No ransom has been reported. Supporters and family members, including Sullivan’s mother and wife, are pleading for prayers and a safe return. The U.S. embassy is involved in the search effort. Sullivan is remembered by his supporters as a devoted missionary working to share his faith in Africa.
