American Airlines Backtracks After Blaming 9-Year-Old for Not Seeing Hidden Camera

American Airlines has retracted a court filing that blamed a 9-year-old girl for not noticing a camera taped to an airplane lavatory seat. The filing was related to a lawsuit against the airline after videos of the girl were found on a former flight attendant’s phone. The attendant, Estes Carter Thompson III, is accused of secretly recording several girls, including the 9-year-old, and has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of child sexual abuse images. American Airlines stated the accusation was a mistake by outside lawyers and amended the filing to remove the claim. Thompson remains in federal custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for July 1.
