Ruffin, known for her witty political commentary, was previously announced as the event’s entertainment, but the change reflects what Daniels calls “a consequential moment for journalism.” While not without precedent—the 2019 dinner also skipped a comedian—this marks a cultural shift from the dinner’s usual blend of satire and celebration.
