Amazon To Acquire Primary Care Provider Company to Reinvent Healthcare Experience

Written by on July 21, 2022

Amazon is about to acquire the primary care organization One Medical for around $3.9 billion. This will be one of Amazon’s largest acquisitions and it will increase the company’s presence in the healthcare field.

The reason Amazon said it is expanding in the medical field is to reinvent the experience in healthcare. The areas they are looking to improve are in booking appointments and going to the pharmacy. The e-commerce company said they plan to make those things easier and they expect to do so in the next several years.

With COVID-19 the demand for telemedicine and virtual health care visits skyrocketed with consumers. Amazon Care began offering it’s telemedicine program to employers last year.

But, is this really about improving healthcare or is this about collecting data and private information from consumers? Meaning they will have more detailed and sensitive consumer data and would you be okay with this as a consumer?

Also, how does Amazon plan to keep all of that data safe?
