All New York State veterans to receive free state park entry
Written by Site Hub on April 2, 2024
Starting April 1, 2024, New York State will offer all veterans and Gold Star Families free access to state parks and recreational sites through the expanded Lifetime Liberty Pass Program. Previously limited to veterans with at least a 40% service-connected disability, the program now extends to include all New York veterans and those who have lost a family member in the line of duty. Announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, this initiative allows free vehicle parking at facilities managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the Department of Environmental Conservation. Additional benefits include free access to State Park-operated golf courses, swimming pools, discounted rates on campsite and cabin rentals, and more. This move aims to honor the sacrifices of veterans and their families, providing them the opportunity to enjoy the state’s natural and historic sites. Gold Star Family Members can access these benefits by presenting a Lifetime Liberty Pass card, while veterans can show a New York State DMV ID with a veteran status designation. Information on how to apply for the pass and details on the program are available on the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historical Preservation’s website.
