Dame Dash Addresses Years-Long Rumor Claiming That He Dated Aaliyah After Jay-Z

On Thursday, December 11, Dame Dash appeared as a guest on ‘POV,’ streamed via YouTube. About 49 minutes into the sitdown, Dash answered a host who asked him dating Aaliyah “after [his] artist dated her.”

“He did not. He was trying her,” Dash said. “Everybody put they bid in — I’m going to tell you right now. As a man, I’m never, ever ever wifing a girl that any of my friends smashed. It’s not happening.”

At that point, a host asked, “So why’d you date her aftr Jay?”

“I just told you that — now you’re reading the papers wrong,” Dash continued. “We all was… I just told you, I would never. That should tell you something right there. We were both putting in our bid. None of us had scored. That’s how it went. We were all trying to get at Aaliyah. Everybody. That was Aaliyah. So it wasn’t him. Just ’cause he tried and gave flowers and got denied don’t mean I can’t try, and win. Obviously, that’s what I’m saying. There must be something attractive of what I’m doing.”

Before Addressing The Rumor That He Dated Aaliyah After Jay-Z, Dame Dash Spoke On Appearing In R. Kelly’s ‘Fiesta’ Music Video

In October 2024, Dame Dash made headlines when he addressed appearing on R. Kelly’s ‘Fiesta’ music video. As The Shade Room previously reported, at the time, Dash posted a clip of himself answering a social media user who referenced R. Kelly and asked him, “Especially considering what the entire industry knew about him, why did you appear in the ‘Fiesta’ video?”

In turn, Dash explained that during early 2000s, his Roc-A-Fella affiliate, Jay-Z, was working on projects with R. Kelly. Additionally, he stated that he informed Aaliyah of the business relationship but noted to her that he didn’t want “any parts of it.” Per Dash, the singer’s response was that she didn’t want to “start any trouble” and wanted to heal after her interactions with Kelly.

“‘Just don’t appear in any scene with him and don’t take any pictures with him,’” Dash said Aaliyah ultimately instructed him, referring to his scheduled appearance in R. Kelly’s ‘Fiesta’ music video.

But that wasn’t the only time Dame Dash has made headlines speaking on himself and Aaliyah. As The Shade Room previously reported, in September 2024, Dash addressed the addressed the photos of him and Aaliyah at Diddy’s Fourth of July party in 2000. Ultimately, he explained that he and Aaliyah only “hung out” at the party and never had anything to do with the allegations now surrounding Diddy.
