Written by on April 12, 2023

Two years ago Covid mandates dominated the headlines as vaccination became the key to returning to in-person work and school. But as the National Public Health Emergency offically comes to a close, SUNY Colleges are rolling back vaccine mandates for students and staff.

According to a press release by SUNY.edu, State University of New York Chancellor John B. King, Jr. today Tuesday that a COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be mandated for students to attend SUNY’s 64 campuses effective this Summer.

This is great news for people who have medical and religious reasons for not taking the shot but prefer an in-person learning environment.

The vast majority of SUNY students are New Yorkers, and to date approximately 77.5 percent of 18–25-year-olds and 79.8 percent of 26–34-year-olds across the state have completed their primary series vaccination.

In addition, rates of infection continue to decline across the country according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
