COVID-19 Helped Famous Thailand Beach Recover from Tourists
Written by Site Hub on March 20, 2022
The pandemic has changed our lives forever and while we all face many hardships and challenges, some good things were able to happen. A famous beach in Thailand, Maya Bay, was featured in the 2000 Leonardo DiCaprio movie, The Beach. Since then, it became the most popular beach in Thailand, so popular that it became too popular. With the flood of tourists, the beach inevitably closed in 2018 as it previously hosted upwards of 5,000 visitors per day, causing the devastating impact of mass tourism on the ecosystem.
Now, the beach is open 4 years later and is better than ever due to the extended time the beach had to recover due to the pandemic. However, there are some rules to follow; advance booking is required, no more than 375 people are allowed at any one time, and no boats in the bay.
