Annual Polar Plunge into Lake Ontario for Charity

30-degree weather equates to being warm, right? The little bit of warmth we had on Sunday called for locals to plunge their way into Lake Ontario for Rochester’s annual polar plunge. The Rochester Polar Plunge is a charity event that benefits Special Olympics New York.
They had over 1,000 registered participants this year, and officials say $200,000 was raised for the organization. Locals took the ‘plunge’ into the freezing waters of Lake Ontario and raised the money by asking friends, family, colleagues, for donations. According to officials, the Rochester Polar Plunge is one of the largest, most popular, and profitable fundraisers for Special Olympics New York.
