Due to COVID-19 Hospitalizations, Monroe County Declares State of Emergency

Written by on December 1, 2021

Since the rise of COVID cases and hospitalizations, Monroe County has declared a State of Emergency and “common-sense” approaches. According to Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, there are 511 new COVID cases, 443 hospitalizations (up 14 from Monday), 108 of those patients are in the ICU (up by four from the previous day), and that the number of patients in the ICU is 50 percent higher than this time last year.

Adam Bello stated: “We do not need to live in a permanent pandemic. I want to assure the public that it understands why we have implemented this new plan and what it’s going to take for us to get it to an end…The rapid test kits will give families and those attending indoor events a way to ensure safe gatherings. Our goal is to make these as available as possible…This pandemic is with us until we approach a more fully vaccinated population.”
