New York City has chosen Democrat Eric Adams, a former New York Police Department captain, to become the city’s second Black Mayor. Adams won in a landslide as Republicans were outnumbered by a margin of about 7 to 1. Currently, Adams serves as the Brooklyn borough president and he was also a former state senator.

The main focus of the 61 year-olds race was combating gun violence and improving public safety, as well as calling for cuts to the NYPD’s budget. He also focused on shifting some jobs to civilians that have been done by officers, and according to Adams, this could save the city up to $500 million a year.
