Stacey Abrams Is Fighting Medical Debt, With Nonprofit Organization

Stacey Abrams and the Fair Fight Action organization donated $1.34 million from its political action committee to the nonprofit organization RIP Medical Debt. The goal is to eliminate $212 million in face value debt owed by 108,000 people in Georgia, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, The Associated Press reported. An estimated 25 million American households have medical debts they are struggling to pay, according to Fair Fight’s website. The pandemic has made the problem worse.

Fair Fight’s contribution is the third-largest donation in the history of RIP Medical Debt, which has assisted more than 3 million people since opening its doors in 2014.
