It is looking like in only a matter of weeks, children between the ages of 5 and 11 could be eligible to get a COVID shot from Pfizer. Trials are re now being reviewed by the FDA, as Pfizer’s vaccine had a “robust” antibody response. Dosage for children was scaled back, from what worked for adults, to something more appropriate.
Dr. Jennifer Nayak, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at URMC, stated: “It’s very, very good news to see that the vaccine works as expected in these younger children. When the trials were being conducted, there was a tremendous focus on safety – to try and make sure that not only did the vaccine work. but that the vaccine was also shown to be safe.”
