Tax Break Proposal For Remote Workers
Written by Site Hub on May 13, 2021
When the pandemic first hit, many were rushing to create an ‘at home office’ to make due for the time being. To compensate for the hardships that had to be made when people were transitioning to remote work because of the pandemic, Rep. Joe Morelle, D-Rochester, introduced a bill that would help families get back some of the money spent on their at-home office. Rep. Morelle stated; “For many people, having a room set aside for their work, it’s really a financial impact on them. They can’t use the space in their house so it seemed to be that it was only appropriate to restore the at-home office deduction. We did in the days when people both worked at an office and had space at home set aside for work.”
The focus of the bill would be on helping middle-class workers. Including benefits beginning to phase out with high-wage earners. The deduction would apply to expenses made from March 13, 2020, and Dec. 31, 2021.
