Community Groups Helping Seniors Amidst Food Insecurity Concerns During Pandemic

Many seniors have been affected by the food insecurity during the pandemic. Some seniors are unable to drive or are medically comprised making them too high risk to be in populated areas.
Grocery stores do allow food pickup and delivery, but this is typically done online, and not all seniors have access to this technology.
Seniors have been relying on food banks and grab and go meal events. Jenna Kazak, the Recreation Supervisor with Town of Irondequoit said, “This is the only way they can get that food because they aren’t able to drive, so the insecurity of not being able to know where their next meal is coming from, we can provide that for them.”
