The 4th Wave of COVID-19 is Coming

As things begin to slowly open back up in New York State, the rest of the nation seems to be hitting a spike in cases. In this past week, there were reportedly 65,000 new cases per day on average. This average had a jump of 20% from two weeks prior. In Michigan alone, there has been a growth of 125% with about 5,000 new cases per day.
As troublesome as these numbers are, they are nothing compared to previous surges of almost 200,000 new cases per day. There is cautionary optimism as the number of those vaccinated continues to rise. Here is a quote from Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist and senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security: “Thanks to the rapid rollout of vaccines, I don’t think we’ll have a surge that is anything like what we’ve seen before. Still, any additional deaths at this point are tragedies, given that we have on hand vaccines that could have prevented them.”
The CDC recommends the continuation of mask wearing.
