Rescue teams were deployed in tandem with the Lake Shore Fire Department when it was discovered that three people had fallen through the ice.
In addition, teams were alerted from the North Greece Fire District, Hilton Parma Fire District and Monroe County Special Operations.
Reports indicate that the people were out ice fishing when the ice gave way and they fell into the freezing cold water.
Ken Peterson witnessed the whole thing and gave a statement, saying:
“I’ve been ice fishing probably 50 years. I’ve never seen the ice go so fast,” he said. “I mean, it went fast today. Usually it starts to get soft right around the shoreline, but you’ve got to watch it. You’ve got to be careful.”
Thankfully nobody was seriously injured, but one person was taken to a nearby hospital.
