Biden Administration Reacts To Texas & Mississippi Lifting Mask Mandates

During the presidential campaign, Joe Biden ran as the “mask” president, actively criticizing the way that Trump dismissed masks during his time as president.
Last June, Biden said “The one thing we do know — these masks make a gigantic difference. I would insist that everybody out in public be wearing that mask.”
Now a few weeks into his presidency, Biden is still facing the drastic polarization of mask politics. The state governments of Mississippi and Texas have decided that they will be lifting the mask requirements for their citizens.
A frustrated President Biden responded to this saying it was being driven by “Neanderthal thinking,” which is the kind of the opposite type of language he told a virtual conference of governors last week when he said that his administration would be “changing the attitude a little bit about how we deal with one another.”
