Pfizer and BioTech Companies Data Hacked In Europe

Welp, it was a matter of time before one of the pharmaceutical companies got hacked. On Wednesday Pfizer-BioNTech announced documents were “unlawfully accessed” during a cyberattack. The hack accessed data on the development of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency reported it was hacked but did not release any details about the attack. Both Pfizer and BioTech believe personal data from trial participants were not stolen in the cyberattack.

It’s not known who attempted the attack, if any other data was taken, and where or how the attack happened. Since the pandemic began authorities say cyberattacks have increased on healthcare and medical organizations.

The timing of the attacks is not great as companies are gearing up to begin the distribution of the vaccine in the United States. The FDA is expected to approve the COVID-19 vaccine in the next few days.

However, there are new reports the Pfizer and BioTech are causing allergic reactions in patients in the United Kingdom. Healthcare officials in the U.K. report the vaccine should not be given to people with a history of significant allergic reactions. According to CNN, two health care workers with a history of allergic reactions responded adversely after receiving the vaccine.
