El Paso County Texas is undergoing a two-week shutdown of all nonessential services starting Friday at midnight.
The order comes from County Judge Ricardo Samaniego in response to skyrocketing hospitalizations of COVID-19.
Voting will still remain open, as it is an essential service but hospitals are at capacity and the medical staff is overwhelmed.
“There seems to be a shadow placed upon us because of the numbers the way they are,” Judge Samaniego said in a statement.
According to public officials, Thursday morning a record 14,359 known active cases, 934 people hospitalized, 245 in ICU, and a 17.24% rolling seven-day average positivity rate.
