Hearing Fireworks Every Night? You’re Not Alone

Written by on June 19, 2020

Many communities in Rochester have cancelled their July 4th fireworks celebration this year due to COVID-19, but that hasn’t stopped individuals in the city and outlying areas from setting off fireworks.

The explosions can be heard every night and residents have been complaining. In a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Police Chief La’Ron Singleterry said there have been a higher rate of 911 calls related to fireworks than usual.

“Call 911 and we’ll respond as quickly as we can,” he said. “… Narrow down a location.”

Will Jackson, the Chief of the Rochester Fire Department has mentioned an “uptick in fires related to the illegal fireworks.” Adding that the only safe way to see fireworks is at a show where professionals are taking care to keep themselves, the spectators and the surrounding property safe.
