On Thursday, March 19, 2020, 40-year-old Lecrae Moore worked with the non-profit Love Beyond Walls to provide hand-washing stations to the homeless and other at-risk populations in Georgia so they can stay safe during the coronavirus outbreak.
Lecrae, who is the winner of the 2013 Best Gospel Album Grammy and best known for his Christian-oriented brand of hip hop music, assembled and filled 15 portable wash stations in College Park. Each station offers five gallons of clean water and filled soap dispensers. Lecrae and volunteers with Love Beyond Walls installed them in local parks throughout Atlanta.
According to the Associated Press, the founder of Love Beyond Walls, Terence Lester, stated that they were out that day, “Doing our part to ensure that people have access to this basic necessity during this pandemic.”
Lecrae explained that when the outbreak occurred, his immediate thought was, ‘What is the homeless community doing about these warnings?’
He and Lester began speaking over the phone and eventually settled on this option:
“I wanted to continue doing the same stuff that I have been doing just in any city I’ve lived in,” said Lecrae, “and that’s just being close to the disenfranchised and the marginalized communities.”
Lecrae and the volunteers also distributed much-needed food to the homeless, including sandwiches, cheeseburgers, and drinks.
