Flavor Flav issues cease and desist order to Bernie Sanders

As former bandmates and co-creators of the iconic group Public Enemy, Flavor Flav and Chuck D aren’t quite on the same political playing field at the moment. When Chuck D publicly endorsed Bernie Sanders for President, he also agreed to perform at a Sanders rally in Los Angeles. However, the Sanders campaign has also been using Public Enemy’s name and likeness in his campaign … practices that Flav takes issue with, which prompted Flav’s attorneys to send the cease-and-desist letter to Sanders. A campaign poster even says that Public Enemy Radio, a spinoff group of Public Enemy, will be performing. But the word “Radio” is in a smaller font, dwarfed by the Public Enemy logo and causing confusion among fans.

Although Flavor Flav is quick to point out that he has yet to endorse any presidential candidate publicly, and his beef is “not about Bernie,” he does object to his likeness being used in the Sanders campaign. Chuck D’s performance at the Sanders rally is not a Public Enemy performance that includes Flav, a point made abundantly clear in the letter by noting that, “hip hop act Public Enemy with which [Flav’s] likeness and name have become synonymous has not endorsed any political candidate in this election cycle and any suggestion to the contrary is plainly untrue.”
