It was great to see Dave Chappelle honored!
Tuesday night WXXI aired the Dave Chappelle: The Kennedy Mark Twain Prize special. If you did not catch the episode the link to watch it is below.
To give you an idea and little background on what the Mark Twain Prize is – Richard Pryor was the first comedian to receive the inaugural award in 1998. Whoopie Goldberg, Lily Tomlan, Eddie Murphy, and Steven Martin are some comedians the have received the Mark Twain Prize.
To receive this honor the individual must have had an impact on American Society in was similar to Mark Twain. Presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts the award ceremony is annual.
The special includes the ceremony at the Kennedy Center with a performance from Common and speeches from John Legend, Bradley Cooper plus many more.
What Dave Chappelle did for comedy and the culture of black music, how he infused the two was brilliant. Dave Chappelle is a comedic icon!
