State Troopers Sport New Vertical Light Bars

Written by on December 13, 2019

New York State Police are trying out something new with the lights on top of their police cruisers.

In an effort to make police cruisers more visible, New York State Police are testing the use of vertical and horizontal light bars. The idea was inspired by the “Move Over” law. Vertical bars will allow police and emergency personnel to be more visible more quickly to drivers, giving them ample time to move over.

New York State Police could not confirm how long they would be testing the new lights or how much it would cost, but they believe this test period is necessary.

“It’s incredibly dangerous on the side of the roadway and most of the people don’t have any idea because they’ve never been on the side of the road and if they have it’s only been for moments,” said Trooper Mark O’Donnell.

Hopefully this helps police and drivers have safer encounters with one another without costing the taxpayers too much.
