QUEEN SPICE

Queen Spice, whose given name is Grace Latoya Hamilton, was born on August 6, 1982 in Saint Catherine Parish, Jamaica. You may have even watched her in the past season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.

More than likely, however, you’ve seen her on stage performing one of her dancehall bangers and delivering an exhibition unlike any other. Man can this woman put on a show!

Since the queen was a child singing in and leading her church choir, music has been a large part of her life. She studied music and drama at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts and gained popularity as a dancehall/reggae DJ and performer.

The Queen’s talents eventually led her to legendary reggae/dancehall producer and CEO of Madhouse Records, Dave Kelly. She went on to release several singles with Madhouse Records and has collaborated with artists like Beenie Man, Mya, Vybz Kartel, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and Elephant Man.

Currently, Spice is in the midst of a legal battle with her record company, VP Records, over the release of her debut album. Despite this, she continues to give her fans new music with her most recent mixtape, “Captured”, which she released on her own.

As of May 2018, she has been busy with the Grace Hamilton Women Empowerment Foundation, an organization she founded that is designed to uplift young women and push them towards success despite life’s obstacles.

We can all take a lesson from Queen Spice, she has taken the challenges she’s faced within her own life and has used them as motivation to uplift others. That ain’t easy… but neither is being the reigning Queen of Dancehall, and she seems to be doing that just fine.
