AI in Insurance: Faster Claims, Higher Denials for Florida Homeowners

Written by on October 23, 2025

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being used to process insurance claims in Florida, a state already burdened with some of the highest homeowner premiums in the U.S. Insurers say AI enables faster and more accurate claim resolutions, but critics worry it may lead to unfair denials.

In 2024, Florida’s claim denial rate reached 46.7%, largely due to Hurricane Milton, which caused $4.7 billion in losses and over 92,000 denied claims.

Many consumers, like homeowner George Bustillo, say payouts have fallen short of rebuilding costs.

Lawmakers are now considering new regulations to ensure fairness and transparency as AI’s influence on critical financial decisions grows.

Is Artificial Intelligence unfairly denying insurance claims in Florida?
