Megan Thee Stallion Spoke About Grief, Depression, & Finally Sought Therapy

Written by on October 14, 2025

Megan Thee Stallion became emotional as she spoke about grief, depression, and the strength it took to heal during Taraji P. Henson’s “i AM The Table” Benefit Brunch held on October 12 at National Harbor in Maryland. The Grammy-winning artist reflected on how therapy helped her survive some of her darkest moments and regain control of her life. The event, organized by the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, served as the closing ceremony for the 5th Annual “Can We Talk?” Multicultural Arts & Wellness Summit. It was created to promote mental wellness and provide resources to underrepresented communities in honor of World Mental Health Day.

While seated with Henson, Megan opened up about the weight she carried while trying to maintain her public image.

“Through all of that grief, I was just working and trying to be the best Megan I could be,” she said, holding back tears. “And I didn’t know I needed therapy until one day, I was just like, Damn, I’m really sad, and it’s really scary how sad I am.” Her voice trembled as she described how low she had fallen. “And it was, it was like, I didn’t care what happened to me. And I didn’t want to feel like that, like I should care about my life,” she admitted, exposing the painful thoughts that pushed her toward seeking professional help. Much of Megan’s struggle began after losing her mother and manager, Holly Thomas, in 2019 due to a brain tumor. The loss left her devastated, both emotionally and creatively. She later revisited that period in her 2024 Prime Video documentary “Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words,” where she discussed the challenges of balancing fame and grief.
