NY AG Letitia James Indicted for Bank Fraud, Calls Case ‘Political Retribution’

Written by on October 10, 2025

New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, was indicted by a Virginia federal grand jury on one count of bank fraud related to a mortgage investigation.

James denied any wrongdoing, stating the issue stemmed from a paperwork error she quickly corrected.

She called the indictment “political retribution,” linking it to former President Donald Trump, who has long criticized her.

Her lawyer accused the Justice Department of pursuing a politically motivated case, especially after James won a civil fraud judgment against Trump in 2024.

The indictment follows similar charges against former FBI Director James Comey.

Vice President JD Vance suggested more indictments could come during the Trump administration, while claiming decisions will be based on law and facts, not politics.
