Alcohol Sales Decline Sharply as Cannabis Gains Popularity
Written by Site Hub on October 9, 2025
A new Constellation Brands report projects beer sales will drop by $185 million and wine and spirits by $253 million in 2026. The decline is driven by shifting cultural attitudes toward alcohol, growing cannabis use, and rising health concerns. Studies show only 54% of Americans consumed alcohol in 2025, down from 67% in 2022, while daily cannabis use has surged fifteenfold since the 1990s. Younger generations increasingly view sobriety as wellness-oriented and sustainable. Cannabis drinks, in particular, have become a top seller, allowing social participation without alcohol. Industry experts suggest the trend reflects broader shifts in health consciousness and social behavior.
