Body of 21-Year-Old Trey Reed Discovered Hanging at Delta State University

A Black student was found hanging from a tree early Monday at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, sparking shock and concern across the campus community.

Delta State University Police Chief Michael Peeler confirmed that the body of 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed, a Black student from Grenada, Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree near the campus pickleball court around 7:05 a.m. on Monday.

In response to Reed’s death, all classes and campus activities were canceled, though the university did not implement a full campus lockdown.
