Rochester Teachers Go Unpaid After Payroll System Fails
Written by Site Hub on August 19, 2025
About 150 Rochester City School District (RCSD) summer employees have either not received paychecks or received partial payments due to a chaotic transition to a new payroll system. The district’s switch from PeopleSoft to Oracle on July 1 left many educators unpaid for weeks of summer work. The Rochester Teachers Association is offering emergency, interest-free loans up to $2,000 to help affected staff. However, many educators say the loans fall short of their owed wages. Union officials blame the rushed system transition and poor communication. Teachers report hours wasted trying to track down their earnings, fueling frustration and low morale just weeks before the new school year. Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser, newly appointed, is not blamed for initiating the crisis but is now tasked with resolving it quickly. District officials say the issue isn’t widespread and promise individualized resolution and transparency moving forward.
