Charlotte Beach Ranked 2nd Unhealthy Water In 2024

A recent report found that all Lake Ontario beaches in the Rochester area exceeded healthy levels of bacteria from fecal matter and other pathogens on at least one day in 2024. The study by the Environment New York Research and Policy Center highlighted Charlotte Beach as having the second highest number of unsafe swimming days in the entire state. Researchers attributed much of the problem to sewer overflows and runoff pollution. The report also noted a nationwide issue, estimating that there are 57 million instances each year of people getting sick from swimming in polluted waters.
