Federal Tax Incentives for Solar, Heat Pumps, and EVs Ending Soon

Written by on July 16, 2025

Time is running out for Americans to take advantage of key federal tax credits for clean energy. Signed into law by President Trump, the “One Big Beautiful Bill” eliminates incentives for rooftop solar, electric vehicles (EVs), and home energy efficiency upgrades. Solar tax credits expire on Dec. 31, while EV tax credits end Sept. 30. The popular Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit, which offered up to $2,000 off heat pumps and up to $1,200 for insulation and windows, also ends this year. The cuts come despite evidence that such technologies save households money and reduce emissions. Though state and utility programs still offer rebates, experts warn that many are tied to Biden-era funding and could disappear. Advocates urge consumers to act quickly and secure contracts before deadlines.
